November 26,27 2004 - direct from Chicago to the Village Hall, an all-singing, all-dancing spectacular performance of Bugsy Malone was held in Compton Martin. This fantastic show was entirely performed by a cast of over 40 local children, some of whom played up to 3 parts during the play. Rehearsals began last spring, and the whole event entailed a massive amount of work for everyone involved. On behalf of all those who were entertained I would like to congratulate everyone who contributed to making this production such a success. I hope it was fun to be on stage because it certainly was great fun to watch.
This show was not a talent contest of individuals, but rather a demonstration of a superb team effort. It would be wrong to single out the performance of some cast members for praise, when everyone put 101% into playing their parts. The musicians were excellent and the drummer especially never missed a beat. Memories of Bugsy Malone will endure with both the parents who supervised fervent line-learning and choreography practice in the kitchen and the cast, who will remember their stage fright, and how they overcame it, in the years to come. We all owe our thanks to the director, Helen Palmer, and her whole production team, for making this event possible.
