1500 Teazle Farming - Weaving of cloth and the sale of wool was fast becoming a major industry througout the country and large areas of teazles were grown in Compton Martin for use in cloth making. They were sold in packs of 20,000 - 3000 being consumed on a piece of cloth 40 years in length.

1770. New Whipping Post at the Pond. Corporal punishment by whipping was often awarded by the criminal law of England for minor offenses such as petty larceny and vagrancy. In the time of the Puritans it was also meted out as a punishment for absence from church.

1778 The First School.

1927 The Village Hall.The site was bought from Frederick Vowles by Mrs Charles Hill in 1921 for £17. The Hall was built and given to the village by Mrs Gathorne Hill in 1927 in memory of her son Richard Hill who was killed in action during the First World War.

1952 The Coronation.The village was beautifully decorated and won an award as one of the best decked villages in the West. The Church was floodlit and the village pond transformed into a “harbour” which became the focus for much merrymaking.
