GLADYS FIELD
Just before Gladys passed away, she particularly asked me to thank everyone for visiting her, sending her cards and flowers and their good wishes. I promised her I would do this via the Link, which she always enjoyed reading.
Gladys had lived in the Coombe all her life. Her mother died when she was just 7 years old and sadly her father died shortly after. Gladys then lived with our grandmother. The Tossell family has lived in the Coombe for nearly 100 years and Gladys was the last member to do so.
She loved her village, and especially the church. She sang in the church choir for many years. She was an active member of the Evergreens and thoroughly enjoyed the Luncheon Club. She was also very involved with the Compton Martin Players. She was known for her poems at Harvest Supper and her double act with her friend, Edith Harlow in the village pantomimes. Who could possibly forget “Glad and Ede’s” performance as fairies and cooks.
It would be true to say she was not afraid to speak her mind, but she was known for enjoying a joke. She thoroughly enjoyed taking family and friends for a meal in the Ring O Bells. She loved all animals, but particularly cats.
I know Gladys will be greatly missed by us all.
